YTL Developments has been granted planning permission for the next phase of new homes at Brabazon, the new neighbourhood for Bristol taking shape on the site of the historic former Filton Airfield. Consisting of 339 dwellings, the second residential phase will be built on Parcel E1, which lies to the east of the currently under-construction Phase 1, near Blenheim Roundabout.

Police are investigating after a number of vehicles were damaged on a single night in Patchway last week. Seven vehicles were damaged, including windows being smashed and tyres slashed, in Durban Road, Southsea Road, Rodway Road, Chessel Drive, Severn Way and Pretoria Road. Officers within the neighbourhood policing team are carrying out additional patrols.

Plans for a replacement main building at Patchway Community School have been revealed, along with a proposed implementation timeline that shows the new accommodation opening in “spring 2026”. It is foreseen that staff and students will “decant” into temporary modular accommodation on the site in “spring 2024”, at the start of a two-year phased build period.

Officers at South Glos Council have given the green light to a controversial planning application for the erection of a large block of flats in gardens behind a row of shops on Coniston Road. The proposed development comprises four separate HMO dwellings providing a total of 22 bedsits. The applicant says the units are foreseen for use as student accommodation.

Hangar 16U – a Grade II listed aircraft hangar on the former Filton Airfield site – is set to be restored as a brand-new public library, café, gym and social centre, according to new plans unveiled by YTL Developments. South Gloucestershire Council has submitted a bid for £5.1 million of aid from the government’s Levelling Up Fund to support the project.

South Glos Council has launch a public consultation on plans to fill in a pedestrian subway near The Parade on Coniston Road and replace it with a zebra crossing. The zebra crossing will incorporate a parallel crossing area for cyclists, with both parts sitting on a ‘raised table’ for traffic-calming purposes. The existing railings along the side of the road will be replaced with bollards.

Patchway Community School is celebrating its “best ever” GCSE examination results, with grades 7-9 across a wide range of subjects, as well as many grades 4-9 in English and Mathematics. Fifty-six percent of students achieved grades 4-9 in both English and Mathematics.

Students at Patchway Community School are celebrating the results of their Post-16 examinations following two years of disruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the students were unable to sit GCSEs in 2020 and so this summer’s examinations were the first external assessments they took.
