A Patchway man who was fatally stabbed in an incident in Rodway Road in January was killed by the jealous ex-boyfriend of the woman he was seeing, Bristol Crown Court has heard.
Steven Vice, 22, denies murdering 25-year-old Wayne Brown, claiming instead that Mr Brown attacked him and he acted in self-defence.
The court was told that on the evening of Saturday 8th January, Vice had attended an event at North Patchway Hall in Gloucester Road, where he was hurt in a fight and later threatened to stab a man. Police attended but no one was arrested.
At around 2am on Sunday morning (9th January), Vice confronted Brown as he walked home along Rodway Road with girlfriend Sadie Thompson.
Vice stabbed Brown twice, causing him to collapse, after which Vice ran off in the direction of Bradley Stoke.
Paramedics attended the scene and Brown was rushed to Frenchay Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 3am.
Vice was arrested hours later at a friend’s house in Wheatfield Drive, Bradley Stoke.
